The reality might be different but let's just pretend we are in that ideal situation where all of our students have access to at least one device on which they can use social media. Should we use them as teachers or avoid them? I guess it depends on the situation.
We have to teach students about the dangers of social media and try to create a safe private space on the social media we would like to use. And we have to keep an eye on every student because they can be used to bully other students. But yes, let's just say we are in that ideal world.
There are many ways to use social media, to connect students with each other, to learn from the classmates and also to cooperate and make group group. The good part is that students will learn even without noticing they are actually learning, which is great because they won't need memorising but practising and understanding of what they are doing.
They can also practice many different skills, like conversation with YouTube and TikTok or writing with Instagram or Twitter.
I think we shouldn't base our whole class in social media, but they for sure are useful and entertaining both for the students and the teachers.
